ABOUT US

The Defrost Project is a collective of artists working to cultivate connection, explore local issues, and celebrate rural communities using theater and storytelling.

The members of The Defrost Project have, between the four of them, created work by, with, and for elementary, middle, high school, and college students, English language learners, youth experiencing homelessness, elderly community members, and many communities throughout the state of Minnesota.

All four members of The Defrost Project hold or are candidates for an MA in Applied Theatre from the City University of New York

Amanda Fredrickson (she/her) works in public education as a middle school ELA teacher. She uses theatrical forms in her classroom to support students’ learning and has collaborated with local businesses to create events for students to exhibit their artistic skills for the public. Beyond her work in the classroom, Fredrickson has written scripts for multiple performances, directed performances for both young people and adults, authored several articles for the Loft Literary Center’s blog, and done event planning and coordination for the statewide Minnesota high school Poetry Out Loud competition. Fredrickson grew up in Roseau, Minnesota, lived in the Twin Cities for several years, and now lives in Manhattan, New York.

Sarah Meister (she/her, they/them) has a range of experience as a director, educator, administrator, and college access counselor. She has made community-based plays with Wonderlust Productions in Minnesota and Cornerstone Theater in New York, facilitated theater workshops with adults and young people all over New York City, and taught writing, literature, Shakespeare, and college readiness to high schools students at College Possible and Carleton College’s Summer Academic Programs. Sarah has lived in Northfield and St. Paul, Minnesota, and now lives in Manhattan, New York.
